Murakami (& talking cats)

Haruki Murakami. Modern, whimsical, wonderful…I’m not entirely sure when I first heard about him, but I borrowed Kafka on the Shore and 1Q84 and have admired Murakami since. I’ve read all his novels, and I’ll admit they have very similar components, but there’s something about his writing that keeps drawing me in. It might be the junction of Japanese culture and Western influences that I find interesting. Having spent part of my childhood in northern Japan, I’m nostalgically attached to this fusion. Favorites: Kafka on the Shore and Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World.
